LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man accused of murdering his grandmother told police that he heard “AI voices” before and after the killing, according to a newly obtained arrest report.
Officers with Las Vegas Metro Police responded to the 2200 block of East Desert Inn Road around 8:17 a.m. on Dec. 29, 2025, after receiving a call requesting a welfare check on 75-year-old Reyna Flores De Hernandez. Police say the caller said Reyna’s grandson, Franklin Flores, 41, had told his wife that she “was in heaven.”
Arriving officers entered the home and discovered her body on the bed, covered by blankets. Medical crews later identified several extensive sharp-force injuries, according to investigators.
As family members began to arrive at the scene, officers made contact with Flores’ wife, who was tracking his location. Using that data, Henderson Police Department officers were able to locate Flores at the Pittman Wash Trail and took him into custody.
During an interview with police, investigators noted that Flores “expressed delusions” about other employees at an Amazon warehouse where he worked. He claimed they were “engaging in human trafficking,” and “hurting his wife and children.” According to the report, this caused Flores to leave his home because he believed his wife was also attempting to steal money from him.
Flores told officers that this prompted him to move in with his grandmother, where the delusions continued, according to investigators. “…He believed Reyna was involved in a conspiracy to steal his money and was supporting the Amazon employees who opposed him.”
The report continues, “Franqulin explained that AI and informants were speaking to Reyna, claiming he could hear them whispering.”
Flores claimed that he was told by another Amazon employee about a “mission” that would spare his wife and children’s lives, but believed his grandmother was sabotaging him.
That night, investigators say he entered his grandmother’s bedroom with a hatchet and gave her a kiss on the forehead before striking her multiple times.
Flores told officers that he continued to live with his grandmother’s body in the apartment “until the AI voices told him the time was up.” He also told officers he had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, but believes he was “misdiagnosed” and does not take any prescribed medications.
Flores is facing an open murder charge in the death of his grandmother, according to court records. He appeared in court for the first time since his arrested on Monday morning.
