Representatives of 156 nationalities live together harmoniously in Belarus; not every country can claim this — as stated by Sergei Gerasimenya, the Deputy Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs, in his talk with the STV TV channel

“There are 156 nationalities living in Belarus, which is above the global average. Not every country can claim that people of 156 nationalities live together peacefully and harmoniously, without conflicts, as officially recorded. Furthermore, 25 religious denominations and movements coexist peacefully in the republic,” Mr. Gerasimenya noted.

The expert emphasised that the past year was significant for the whole country, including the religious community. In particular, the re-registration of religious organisations was carried out.

“This process went smoothly and as planned, disproving the predictions made by our enemies. The re-registration confirmed that there are still 25 religious denominations. Although some groups experienced a decline in the number of their religious communities, the overall rich diversity of faiths continues. This also reflects the character of Belarusians,” the Deputy Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs explained.
