Slovenia’s President Nataša Pirc Musar signed on Tuesday a decree scheduling the next parliamentary elections for March 22, according to the presidency.

“They (the elections) are an opportunity for us as a community to think about what kind of Slovenia we want, which values we want to defend, what kind of society we want to build, and what future we want to leave to future generations.”

– Nataša Pirc Musar

The decree sets the framework for transparent voting and creates conditions for representatives of political forces and civil society to discuss substantive proposals. The campaign should focus on concrete programs and values that align with European benchmarks and the country’s development.

The president herself addressed all political parties, the media and the broad public with a call to act with respect, tolerance and responsibility. She stressed that during the pre-election period the main emphasis should remain on substance, not on personal conflicts or PR.

“I do not want any deviations from the pro-European path that has brought Slovenia stability, security and development”

– Nataša Pirc Musar

What this means for Slovenia and its citizens

Changing the planned election date to March 22 underscores the country’s readiness for an open and honest political debate. The expected round of voting should confirm or revise the political direction, particularly with regard to economic progress, energy, and integration into European institutions. Experts emphasize the importance of constructive programs that can ensure stability and social justice in the future.

The president’s administration says that society should receive balanced information from various sources so that citizens can make an informed choice during the vote.
