A man who came to Malta for an internship has been reported missing. He was last seen at his Sliema apartment on Friday morning.

Thirty-year-old Samiel Daroussi, from Mayotte – a French overseas territory near Madagascar – arrived in Malta at the beginning of December for a three-month internship under the Erasmus+ programme. The placement formed part of his training to become a technician and was also intended to help him improve his English.

SAS Daesa, the training centre in Mayotte that sent Daroussi to Malta, contacted Times of Malta on Tuesday, as no one has seen or been able to contact Daroussi for over four days.

“We are in contact with his family every day. They are very worried,” a company spokesperson said.

Daroussi was last seen by his roommate between 8am and 9am on Friday at their apartment in Sliema. The roommate said all of Daroussi’s personal belongings were in his room.

Adding to the concern, Daroussi had lost his mobile phone two days before he was last seen, leaving him unreachable.

His roommate has filed a missing person report at a police station, but has since received no updates.

The police issued a statement on Tuesday urging anyone with information about Daroussi to contact Police Headquarters on 21 224001 or 119, or call at the nearest police station.
