30% of new-borns in Portugal born to foreign mothers

In total, there were 89.162 births in Portugal, 4,520 more than registered last year, which already showed a growth trend.

According to Rádio Renascença, in 2025, Portugal registered the highest number of births since 2021. In total, there were more than 89,000 babies in the country, when compared to the same period last year.

Data from Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado (IRN), 28 per cent of the born babies in Portugal in 2025 were children of foreign mothers. In total, 25,000 were born to foreign mothers.
