The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is investigating a suspicious death that was discovered in the Gordon Head area of Saanich earlier this week.

Saanich Police say they launched an investigation into a suspicious death that occurred inside a residence in the 1600-block of Blair Avenue on Jan. 5.

One day later, Saanich Police said the VIIMCU had taken over the investigation, and that one person was “currently in custody in connection to this matter.”

“At this time, we believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no indication that anyone else is outstanding,” said Saanich Police in a statement Tuesday.

The police department says residents should expect to see officers in the area as detectives continue to investigate the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is a joint team that includes RCMP, Victoria Police, Saanich Police, Central Saanich Police and Oak Bay Police, as well as civilian employees.

It investigates homicides and missing person cases where criminality is suspected across the majority of Vancouver Island, as well as the Northern and Southern Gulf Islands and some remote parts of the B.C. Coastline.
