People became suspicious when there were several games of high quality, entertaining football.
Who could’ve predicted that?
This is going to be one of those stories that you know is going to grow and grow…
(grab your popcorn we’re off again)
Were they fixing the matches to be unwatchable also ?
as an avid lover of the game, i call for 50 year sentences. We all know its corrupt as hell from top to bottom but it never fails to feel like a besmirchment of the great escapism so many of us enjoy and utterly heinous as a result. Dont fuck with peoples hope.
Yet John Delaney walks free……..
About time there was some movement on this
[This](https://twitter.com/seidodge) Twitter account seems to be compiling suspicious goals against a Limerick defender.
Thought it said “League of Legends” at first
2 hours laters:
Gardai have released 10 men over alleged match fixing. Investigations are continuing.
they can arrest 10 men, but not fucking Delaney…………….
Including 7 players/former players of whom 2 are still playing in the LoI
Remember when those “Saudis” wanted to buy Galway and it turned out to be the Lithuanian lads who ran Athlone into the ground.
Some of the stories in the LOI are farcical
I wonder if there are any Limerick FC fans about to give further light on the situation?
I can try to give A general background for those who don’t know, Limerick were a great team once, but after some lean years follwed by some years of having some money, the club baiscally went dry in 2019. A lot of the players were not getting paid, and if i remember correctly, fans and players around the league raised money for a player for injury treatment.
That is not to excuse any players that have been arrested at all. Match fixing (and other curruption stuff) kills leagues. It destroys fans faith in the sport. Just look at how the Serie A never fully rebounded after there scandals in 2006 (?), while plenty of Eastern European leagues have been severely stunted by curruption.
I know there were two games in particular that were highlighted for betting irregularities at the time. My guess is this investigation has resulted from this.
Smaller leagues are proned for international match fixing. I heard reports of hundreds of thousands on LOI first division matches abroad (in the bookies I too put some euro on a Bulgarian second division game). Its an international sport, national league, low wages and low attention. UEFA puts an emphasis on fighting against it. I doubt this was an international effort (from the evidence so far), it seems like some scroungers wanted a quick payday before leaving the league. It is actually hard to match fix football, considering you need nearly the full team in on it, which means that word will most likely spread ( or tou cam just pay the referee).
I also think its important to point out,( if this is only contained to one club), every senior club finished ahead of them in the league (thanks to a points deduction) and that the team is now defunct at this level. They were replaced by a fan driven new club Treaty United.
Unfortunately, it is a bad day for the league. But ultimately, the FAI and UEFA have done a good thing working with the Gardai, and have not swept it under the carpet. I hope the league is not tainted too much by this and by dealing effectively with these scroungers and criminals.
Glanced quickly and though it was league of legends lol
Limerick no 6 is like a statue at the back in Sligo Rovers 6-2 game. Playing lads onside. Letting a man come across him to the the front post and not bothering to go for rebound. Not sure which is worse, that goal or the very last one where he just trots back and stands up and allows Sligo player to shoot. How could they possibly think they would get away with something so blatant. There is also footage of him being like a statue against Wexford Youths. Guy has a history of it id say.
