Over 12,500 women of Moldova benefited from early breast cancer detection services throughout 2025.
The services were provided to women from the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as well as from the districts of Ungheni, Nisporeni, Calarasi, Falesti, and Causeni, especially to those with suspicious symptoms, in order to facilitate rapid access to specialized investigations.
Out of the total number of beneficiaries, over 5,000 women underwent free digital mammograms and ultrasounds of the mammary glands, soft tissues, and lymph nodes. The investigations were funded by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) from the prevention measures fund, with the allocated amount exceeding 5.3 million lei.
As a result of the examinations, over 800 women were referred to the Reference Center of the Oncological Institute for diagnosis confirmation and treatment planning.
According to the Oncological Institute, over 560 women were diagnosed with benign pathologies and precancerous states, approximately 90 with breast cancer, and six women are awaiting biopsy results.
Prophylactic examinations can be conducted at regional centers for early breast cancer detection, including the Republican Medical Diagnosis Center, Balti Clinical Hospital, Ungheni Health Center, Causeni District Hospital and the Oncological Institute.
For 2026, CNAM has planned seven million lei from the prevention measures fund, in order to continue the early breast cancer detection programme.
