Roe Highway has been closed between Berkshire Road and Kalamunda Road and residents have been warned homes in parts of Perth’s east are under threat, as firefighters battle an out of control bushfire in the City of Kalamunda.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for residents bound by Brand Road, Sultana Road and Roe Highway in parts of High Wycombe about 3.05pm on Wednesday.

The bushfire — first reported about 2.05pm — is moving in an easterly direction.

It is not contained or controlled.

DFES warned residents they are in danger, and urged locals to “act immediately to survive”.

“It is too late to leave,” a spokesperson said.

“Fire has impacted evacuation routes and leaving now will put your life in danger.

“You need to identify a room in your home where you can shelter from the approaching fire.

“You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you.”

Up to 13 appliances are on the ground fighting the blaze, with at least one water bomber assisting from the sky.

Dramatic footage from Main Roads show parts of Roe Highway covered in thick black smoke, with several spot fires smouldering in the median strip.

Drivers have been warned of heavy smoke, and have been urged to stay alert and seek an alternate route.
