German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is the last of the leaders to speak.
“This new year is beginning exactly the way the old one ended – with intensive peace diplomacy for Ukraine,” he says.
“In the triangle of Europeans, Ukraine and United States, we have built on the progress that we achieved last year in Berlin.Â
“This is a shared success.”
Merz says the US and the coalition have the “same strategic goal”.
“Today, we focused on the contribution that Europe and its partners, after a ceasefire, could make for Ukraine,” he adds.
“As the coalition of the willing, we will be shouldering our responsibilities.”
Germany could have a presence in a neighbouring NATO country to Ukraine after a year of any future ceasefire, Merz says.
“I would say that for the moment, nothing is excluded.”
