The first stamps issued by Latvian Postal Service (Latvijas Pasts) this year will be dedicated to the regions of Sēlija, Sigulda, and Dienvidkurzeme, featuring their coats of arms, the company announced. The stamps will be available from January 9th.

The coat of arms of Sēlija, designed in 2023 by heraldic artist Edgars Sims, is the only official coat of arms of a historical region that has not yet been depicted on a stamp. Now it will be featured on a new philatelic issue with a face value of €2.35, which corresponds to the cost of letter postage in the weight category up to 20 grams within Latvia. The stamp has a print run of 300,000 copies.

The Sigulda municipality coat of arms stamp marks the beginning of the 100th anniversary of the municipal centre, the city of Sigulda itself, which occupies an important place on Latvia’s tourism map. The stamp has a face value of €3.00, will be issued in a print run of 145,000 copies, and is intended for paying for letters weighing up to 20 grams to countries in the European Economic Area.

The stamp featuring the coat of arms of the Dienvidkurzeme region will be available in a print run of 75,000 copies, with a face value of €4.41, which corresponds to the cost of sending letters weighing up to 20 grams to other countries.

The issue was designed by artist Ģirts Grīva. The new stamps will initially be available for purchase at customer service centres and post offices in major cities, as well as at the Latvijas Pasts e-shop. The first day of issue will be on January 9th, starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Elizabetes Street post office in Rīga.
