>The new orders would empower police to put electronic tags on disruptive demonstrators and restrict where they go, who they meet and what they do in person or online, even if they have not committed a crime.
So glad we’ve gotten our sovrinty to live in an authoritarian nightmare back. Patel proposing bills that would make Kim Jong Un blush.
>Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, pointed to a HM Inspectorate of Constabulary report commissioned by Ms Patel on protest powers.

>She said that the Home Office itself had argued against the creation of protest banning orders and was quoted by the watchdog saying they were “unlikely to work as hoped”.

>“This proposal [of protest banning orders] essentially takes away a person’s right to protest and we believe banning people from attending peaceful protests would very likely to lead to a legal challenge,” the Home Office continued.

It’s always nice to see the Tories carrying through on their mismatched and contrary ideological principles in defunding the police and legal system while giving them draconian powers they don’t have the resources to enforce.
Sounds funny, coming from ministers who are non dom in UK and run in parallel multi billion businesses… people were hating “the elite” before but that Elite knew always that their richess come from the people, thus ensuring their safety and wellbeing… now it’s the opposite.
Sounds like they wouldn’t even be legal.. wait.. oh yea
Our rights are being stripped away from us by this government, and we seem non the wiser to it. History somehow finds a way of repeating itself, an humanity someone finds another way of turning a blind eye to the bullshit around us
The home office might not like some of these new proposed measures, but the public do:
>Do Britons support or oppose the proposed law that would criminalise disruptive protests such as locking buildings or blocking trains stations and airports? (11 May)
Which is hardly surprising. Protesters have been directly targeting the general public and trying to make the average person’s life as difficult as possible, so in response, the public now support laws that would protect their livelihoods from protesters who seek to disrupt them, and swing the balance of power back towards the public instead of protesters.
There are no words to describe the level of disdain I feel for Priti Patel.
it’s like we’re in a race with the french and americans to see who can become a fascist state the fastest, what the fuck is wrong with the voting populous
I think that lots of people are gonna end up in jail it’s going to bankrupt the government I think I might be one of them for Queen and country
How about that they’re also incredibly authoritarian and have no place in any policy?
Ah, the protest laws that even the *police* did not want because they went too far and completely unnecessary with already current law?
It turns out they’re unworkable to, either because Patel was going for the hat trick of vindictive pointlessness or because they finally got a lawyer to give it an once over and highlight anything vulnerable to a legal challenge… and they just dunked the whole act in neon ink and called it a £500 per hour consultant fee day.
But because some people were late to work due to Extinction Rebellion gluing themselves to a road in a desperate plea that someone does something, anything for the ongoing climate diasaster, it’s best to cheer for our rights being removed.
Such a development is the very essense of illiberal authoritarianism much favoured by fascist regimes.
And what is Labour’s response? “it won’t work”
Of coarse not the BLM chaos was a clear look how the police respond to mass public violence not very well it seems decades of cuts makes it hard for the rule of law to be enforced
You either let people protest peacefully or get ready for the torches and pitchforks that will come.
Edit: England should recall French history.
The Tories want to build a society where your only recourse will be to sit silently at home, and email your MP.
Except MPs aren’t obliged to read emails, and when they bother to reply they’ll copy + paste the party line explaining why they will proceed to support the bad thing you don’t want anyway.
You won’t be able to reach them on social media, because they will block you.
You won’t be able to protest on the streets to reach them, because the police will physically block you.
