There is a united Ireland but have to join the commonwealth and take on a similar flag for 100 years. Deal or no deal?

  1. Personally it’s a no go but I saw a few of them recently and I can imagine each of those countries would take independence over flag

  2. Not a chance, I actually think if the real questions of change of flag, anthem and irish symbology was asked to change to appease unionists (14% of the population who are a cancer by the way), the republic would overwhelmingly vote no!

When the vast majority of people in Ireland are asked about reunification the old sense of pride and images of connelly, Clarke and McDonagh come to mind the answer is an immediate yes, but I believe if the real questions and reality of it where made clear the answer would be an overwhelming no, not a popular opinion but that’s my belief.

  3. I have no issue with the Commonwealth. Plenty of republics are members of that organisation. The flag is horrendous though. Reminds me of the Australian and New Zealand flags, which are very colonial in appearance.

  4. Wouldn’t have made too much of a difference I’d say. Home Rule and then slipping out like we did anyway under Dev? Seems much better than a bloody war and then a Civil War that has split the country for 100 odd years at this point. I’d take a little union jack in the corner for that, it would end up being changed anyway. Redmond’s path to independence is honestly much better than what we got.

  5. I don’t know why people are so mad for the gold harp on blue, that was a flag used by Henry the 8th to change his title from lordship of Ireland, to king of Ireland.

  6. Deal on joining the Commonwealth, no deal on having the British flag on ours. I don’t mind changing the tricolour though, just not to include another states flag
