The progress of Moldova on its path toward the EU is remarkable. President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has made statements to this effect. She, along with the President of the European Council, António Costa, today met President Maia Sandu, in the context of the launch of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“Moldova’s progress on its path toward the EU is remarkable. Moldova has just joined the Single Euro Payments Area and the EU roaming zone. Today, in Nicosia, we continue to work together on the next steps toward EU accession. We are making sure that all Moldovans will benefit,” Ursula von der Leyen said.

For her part, President Maia Sandu said that Moldova was ready to take the next steps in the EU accession process.

“Moldova has proved its resilience. Our citizens have clearly chosen Europe, and we are fulfilling our reform agenda. We are ready to take the next steps in our accession process,” Maia Sandu wrote on the X platform.

On January 7, President Maia Sandu participated in the official launch of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event, hosted by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, brought together European officials, including President of the European Council António Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
