Marco Rubio has decided to get out ahead of any potential questions. He has made it clear that his focus remains on the United States and not the Miami Dolphins.

Rubio, the United States secretary of state, made a seemingly joking post on X on Thursday morning shortly after the Dolphins announced the firing of head coach Mike McDaniel. He confirmed that he will not try to replace McDaniel, nor will he try to replace fired General Manager Chris Grier.

“I do not normally respond to online rumors but feel the need to do so at this moment,” Rubio, a Miami native, posted. “I will not be a candidate for the currently vacant HC and GM positions with the Miami Dolphins.

“While you never know what the future may bring right now my focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America. Thank you.”

Rubio is out of the running for the Dolphins, so where does the team go now after four seasons of McDaniel as head coach? Joking aside, the team has some options.

The biggest name in this hiring cycle is John Harbaugh, the man fired by the Ravens after 18 seasons and a Super Bowl win (2012). He will have no shortage of suitors in this process, likely including the Giants and Dolphins.

The big question for the Dolphins is which side of the ball will deliver the next head coach.

Brian Flores, a hard-nosed defensive coordinator, led the team for three seasons (2019-2021). He followed former offensive coordinators Adam Gase (2016-2018) and Joe Philbin (2012-2015). McDaniel, another offensive mind, followed Flores while bringing his “softer” approach to the organization.

History indicates that the Dolphins will lean toward an offensive mind as the next head coach, but the team will make their intentions known in the coming days while making interview requests with the available candidates.

Rubio just will not be a member of the list as he focuses on the United States’ foreign affairs.
