Everyone here is driving 90kmh.. I keep driving 90kmh, I’m slowing down traffic, if I cut them off from the right, then I’m a d1ck, and If I drive behind them, again I’m a d1ck..

  1. I have noticed a lot of people have been driving slowly lately. My best guess is that this is due to the high fuel prices. What I dont understand , why drive that slow, on the left???????? MOVE TO THE RIGHT!!!!

  2. Hey watch out, don’t you know that the right lane is lava?

I usually just overtake them from the right. Probably makes me a criminal or an asshole, but there’s also this:

    >Wat is volgens de wegcode niet inhalen? File De wegcode spreekt niet over inhalen, wanneer er file of druk verkeer is en het verkeer op de ene rijstrook wat sneller rijdt dan op de andere.

I know that doesn’t really apply here, it’s probably not “crowded” enough to bring that rule into effect. But sometimes it’s just a tiny bit too ridiculous and I do it to prove a point.

  3. If you are driving on a 2 lane “autoweg” then the max speed is 90 unless it says otherwise, most people don’t know/ don’t care.

Personally i don’t care but i respect the ones who do.

I care when someone is driving 10 cm behind me. I get so upset my right leg is unable to hit the gas pedal properly and i go slower and slower until the waste of life driving behind me keeps his distance.

    Edited

  4. Als je in deze situatie gewoon 120 km/u zou rijden ben je volgens de wegcode niet aan het inhalen maar aan het voorbijrijden. Voorbijrijden langs rechts is perfect toegestaan.

  5. Yeah I hate this. Even when there is a “spitsstrook” people do this. I just drive 120 km/h and fuck these guys.

A while ago I did this on the E40 and suddenly there was a police car behind me. I thought that I would be pulled over for overtaking on the right. But he did the same thing and then forced all the cars to the right by zigzagging in front of them.

  6. If they ignore the existence of the right hand side lane, then they cannot get angry by suddenly acknowledging the existence of a car driving there without acknowledging the existence of the lane on which they should FUCKING drive. Right?

  7. LPT: you’re only overtaking if you merge lanes at the end of it. So if you pass by 10 cars on the right *and stay on the right*, you’ve not done anything illegal.

On to the life hack part: overtake those 10 cars until you’re blocked by a slower car on the right (typically a truck). Slow down, allow 1 or 2 cars on the left to overtake you again so that you’re very clearly no longer in the process of overtaking anyone. Then merge to the left when you get the chance to do so in a safe way.

Congratulations! You’ve now overtaken 8 cars from the right! You’re an asshole, but you haven’t broken any laws.

This is something I wouldn’t do in a situation like OP’s (where it’s people genuinely trying to overtake), but I’ve done it frequently on the E40 where people seem to be allergic to the spitsstrook.

  8. The first car on the left lane appears to be overtaking a few trucks. He is allowed to, as far as he is going on a higher speed than the truck. Picture doesn’t show, but he could be even behind a slow truck that is overtaking other trucks, which happens a lot. So yea, if you pass everyone from the right, just to be blocked by that truck in the beginning, and then merge to the left, you’ll be a dick to everyone else on the line. Unfortunately, this is not any driver’s fault, you just have to be patient, something I wasn’t on my 20s, but learned to be on my 30s.

Edit: Someone pointed out how wrong I am on the below comment. More info here: https://wegenenverkeer.be/vlot-op-weg/ritsen

There is an even worse situation, that I see a lot in belgium, when you have a congestion, you follow your way in the line like a good citizen, and on the left there is a lane end – merge situation, and a lot of smartass drivers decide to overtake everyone else on those lanes, and then blinking to the right like they are the kings of the highway, which makes you, that is being considerate of others, wait even longer.

  9. It’s complicated….

    * Left is to overtake, right is if you’re not overtaking
    * Generally, that means left goes faster than right.

However, what happens is that up ahead someone doing slower, wants to overtake an even slower driving truck.

So the crowd that was passing you at 120, gets held up by this van trying to reach 95 to pass a truck doing 90.

And then the accordion motion starts… The first one slows down to 95, the next one reacts too late so slows to 90, the 3rd one to 85 etc etc…

And suddenly, you’re doing 90 and you’re about to pass people who earlier were quicker than you.

Now, obviously, “*those people should drive right”* doesn’t solve anything because they want to do 120, but can’t because of slower traffic up ahead…

  11. Every day I deal with car crashes etc. And every day it astonishes me how little people know about our road rules.
The comments on this sub are just more of the same.

No this isnt an application of 16.2 if you pass them on the right. It is still inhalen en niet voorbijrijden. If you want to argue that it is crowded enough to qualify for voorbijrijden, then you cant also complain that they are driving in the wrong lane. 9.5 clearly states that when the road is crowded traffic can be split among the lanes.
What would be an application for example, is the E40 at 16.00 where all lanes are filled up. This isnt even remotely the case in this picture.

If they change lanes and they can prove you were overtaking you on the right, you WILL still be held liable. Mostly only partly because changing lanes is also a manoeuvre, depends on the situation as well ofcourse.

Them driving on the wrong lane doesnt “allow” you to just pass them on the right. No matter how much you justify it to yourself.

And oh btw OP, while you are complaining about lane hoggers, you are using your phone to take a picture while driving on the highway. Oh the irony.

  12. I think this is a perfect illustration of another effect of “more lanes doesn’t improve traffic flow”.

Mostly people in the left lane are waiting for the one at the front of the queue to overtake a truck while everyone else have to adapt their speed to the slowest car overtaking. With plenty of trucks it’s probably 90 because one of the trucks overtook another.

I just try and take it easy and not speed but this means I often sit behind a truck waiting for an opening. It isn’t bad once you decide not to be in a hurry and just let it take as long as it takes.

  13. I vote for everyone is the asshole with OP being the biggest one for using his cellphone behind the wheel.
