Varadkar: Government TDs who vote against National Maternity Hospital will face sanction

  1. Eamon Ryan has the air of unassailable authority and leadership reminiscent of a diffident supply teacher.

And it’s he who’ll be dealing with any errant Greens, not Varadkar.

  2. A party whip isn’t new, but it’s also gotten to the stage where you can’t voice dissent without hurting your career/influence, which is kinda ridiculous.

You either agree with the top brass, or you get fucked.

  3. Jesus Christ do we really need to explain to people every time there is a major vote that unless TDs are given express permission to vote what way they want, every TD in a party has to vote with their party.

  4. If you can’t call a whip on a project to bring maternity from the 18th century into the 22nd century, then when can you call a whip. Makes perfect sense.

  5. Weren’t they told to vote their conscience for the 8th amendment? But Lord help you of you come between our buddy’s and brown envelopes
