A budget of 1.4 billion lei is planned for reimbursed medicines and medical devices for the 2026 year. Health Minister Emil Ceban has made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively with MOLDPRES.

According to the minister, around 100 million lei of this amount will be allocated to expanding the list of reimbursed medicines by introducing new items, based on submitted requests and evaluations carried out in accordance with the legal framework.

“In the first 11 months of 2025, approximately 27,400 free medical interventions were performed under special programmes, including ophthalmological, orthopedic, cardiovascular and neurological procedures. For 2026, an increase in volumes is forecast, reaching 30,267 free interventions, with all programmes having higher contracted figures than those achieved in 2025,” Ceban said.

The health minister said that these measures confirmed the commitment to expanding citizens’ access to high-quality medical services free of charge.
