Oman’s top diplomat has expressed strong optimism about the growing strategic partnership between his country and Türkiye, characterizing the relationship as mature, trust-based, and brimming with untapped potential. Speaking at a joint press conference in Ankara with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi stated that bilateral relations are “progressing on the right path with clear and confident steps,” anchored in mutual respect and a common vision held by both nations’ leaders.
High-Level Visits and a Foundation of Mutual Trust
Minister Al Busaidi pointed to the recent reciprocal state visits—Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s trip to Türkiye and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Oman—as concrete indicators of the relationship’s solidity and high-level commitment. He emphasized that the political and diplomatic coordination between Muscat and Ankara is “fundamental and strategic,” with the shared will to elevate ties to “broader horizons.” The Omani minister suggested this partnership would yield benefits not only for the two countries but also for the wider region through concrete collaborative projects in both the public and private sectors.
Aligning on Regional Crises and Türkiye’s ‘Important’ Role
The ministers held extensive consultations on pressing regional issues, with the Palestinian cause remaining a central concern. They also discussed developments in Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and Somalia. Al Busaidi specifically commended Türkiye’s regional and international diplomacy, stating that the role Ankara has undertaken is “very important.” He noted that together with other regional actors, Türkiye supports initiatives aimed at reducing tensions, reviving political dialogue, and building foundations for stability and prosperity based on principles of sovereignty and mutual respect.
A Shared Vision for Regional Stability Through Cooperation
The Omani foreign minister articulated a philosophy of regional engagement shared with Türkiye, asserting that development and progress are only achievable through “positive and constructive cooperation.” On the situation in Yemen, a particular focus for Oman’s diplomacy, Al Busaidi detailed Muscat’s work with all stakeholders to ensure stability through dialogue. He welcomed Saudi Arabia’s initiative to host a conference on Yemen, expressing hope for outcomes that restore stability and secure Yemeni interests, aligning with the broader goal of a more secure regional future championed by both Oman and Türkiye.
