A yellow warning (potential danger) has been issued for Friday night and Saturday by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).
In common with much of Europe, Latvia is subject to high winds and freezing temperatures which in turn are causing other problems such as snowdrifts and slippery driving conditions.
A long coastal section of the Gulf of Rīga, running from Cape Kolka to Rīga itself, is subject to a warning for high winds, while large bands of Kurzeme and Latgale regions are subject to a warning for snow.
Drivers are advised to be cautious if their journeys are unavoidable, and the current state of the roads across the country can be viewed on the Latvian State Roads live map here.
