SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A merchant walk took place in San Francisco’s Sunset District Friday as business owners talked to PG&E representatives to get information about the claims process after weeks of devastating power outages.

San Francisco District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong spearheaded the meetings.

“As people know, I have not been happy with PG&E,” he said. “There have been six outages in the Sunset District in December and I have been very frustrated with the process.”

The three businesses visited during the merchant walk were impacted by the blackout in San Francisco on December 20, and are making claims beyond the PG&E automatic credits.

PG&E is offering businesses $2,500 and residents $200.

But some say they’re facing bigger losses.

Tony Lee owns Sun Maxim’s dim sum restaurant on Irving Street.

“I think that’s way not enough for the business, what we lost,” he said, adding he lost more than tens of thousands of dollars.

An employee at Irving Seafood Market tells ABC7 News they also lost tens of thousands of dollars in seafood and other food and plan to fill out a claim.

The outage on December 20 affected about 130,000 customers.

But people in the Sunset have faced additional outages.

Supervisor Wong is asking for more accountability.

“What they’re doing right now is the least that they could do,” he said. “I’m glad that today we could facilitate this process, where we’re getting them to actually come out and directly talk with merchants, have language access, have paper forms to them. This should have been done much more earlier and not at the prompt of my office.”

Supervisor Wong is planning a meeting for next week with the CEO of PG&E and a public hearing.

PG&E said they’ll review all claims and determine allotments based on the information submitted.

The utility also said they’ll continue to be out in the community.
