Vice President JD Vance continued to show his support for the ICE agent who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis, sharing footage on social media that appears to show a new vantage point on the deadly interaction.

Vance reposted the clip multiple times on X, formerly known as Twitter, Jan. 9. He again said that the officer acted in self defense and criticized “media dishonesty” about the incident.

“Many of you have been told this law enforcement officer wasn’t hit by a car, wasn’t being harassed, and murdered an innocent woman,” Vance wrote. “The reality is that his life was endangered and he fired in self defense.”

The 47-second cell phone clip was published Jan. 9 by the Minnesota-based outlet Alpha News. The outlet said it shows the perspective of Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, 37.

Ross approaches Good in her maroon Honda Pilot with its rear window down and a black lab dog in the back seat as she blocks the road, according to the video. As sirens blare and Ross records Good in the driver’s seat, she appears to say, “That’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you,” the video shows.

He appears to have an interaction with a woman dressed in flannel, who is also recording, moments before the chaotic scene turned violent.

“Out of the car,” another federal officer demands, according to the video, “Get out of the (expletive) car.”

A bystander filmed the moment an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis after President Trump ramped up immigration enforcement in the area.

Good then puts the Pilot into gear, turns her wheels and begins accelerating toward Ross, the video shows. At that moment the handheld cell video abruptly drops and three gun shots are heard.

When asked to verify the new video and given a list of questions from USA TODAY, the Department of Homeland Security responded with a copy of their X post that said: “WATCH:”.

“This footage corroborates what DHS has stated all along − that this individual was impeding law enforcement and weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to federal law enforcement,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “The officer was in fear of his own life, the lives of his fellow officers and acted in self-defense. The American people can watch this video with their own eyes and ears and judge for themselves.”

Others, however, saw the same video as showing Good driving away and thought it demonstrated that her shooting was unjustified.

“How could anyone on the planet watch this video and conclude what @JDVance says below?” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., posted on X. “This whole administration – from Noem to Vance to Trump – is lying to you. We demand justice NOW.”

Other video of the shooting has been circulating online. At the moment the shots were fired, the wheels of Good’s vehicle are turned to the right, angled away from the officer, footage shows.

After watching video of the shooting, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the self-defense claim a “garbage narrative,” at a Jan. 7 news conference.

In a longer post, Vance said he agrees with those calling Good’s death a “tragedy.” But Vance said the officer had reason to fear for his life and was “seriously injured by a vehicle” just six months ago. Ross’s right arm and left hand were badly cut after a man dragged him with a car while attempting to flee in June 2025, according to court documents.

The posts continue the vice president’s staunch defense of the agent and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement more broadly. Vance has previously described Good’s death as “a tragedy that falls on this woman,” saying “I stand with ICE.”
