Americans were horrified to be told to live like Europeans. Is it longer life expectancy they mind?

  1. I mean, I’m not really here to defend dipshit Americans online but also how are you going to write an article like this and site dipshit Americans online as your basis?

  2. This is a bullshit take. And the original Bloomberg article was also terrible.

English speaking journalism at its finest.

  3. I had to cross two rivers and three mountains to read this article online. Americans are so blessed with their access to Internet. No wait, I am still in my bed, it’s almost like witches magic.

  4. In America you already have a “social” credit rating. If you are poor and rank the lowest of credit you cant get a loan or even a house.

You are penalized by being poor.

  5. Speaking from experience, Americans spend enormous amount of money for take away food or beverages (Starbucks etc.) and in general they buy a lot of random things on sales. Things they usually don’t need.

People I met complained how broke they are while spending 20-30usd per day on some excess stuff. And that is only food and beverages.

It is 6000usd a year. I live in Poland, far from being broke, technically I could easily afford to spend 50-100pln a day on some random Starbucks coffees and Subway sandwiches, but what for?

  6. Brb need to go fetch the water and leaves from the well to take a dump on my outdoor toilet.

  7. >has caused predictable outrage on both sides.

I thought majority of those who are anti-Europe are Republicans and some moderate Democrats.

    >indignantly tweeted that if she wanted to live like a European she would move to Europe (which, famously, is a single, homogeneous country). “Let’s … keep our AMERICAN dream, thank you,” she exclaimed.

What American dream? I thought American dream is dead years ago. U.S. weakness is healthcare(paying more than $1000 and then ended up bankrupt), education, homelessness and they still don’t have paid family leave like all European countries.

  8. I was at a wedding a few years ago and the dipshit American relatives were surprised that the German family had washing machines.

Did they expect them to go down to the river and beat their clothes against rocks?

  9. Damn is this all you do? Spam shitty “news” articles, especially when its not even relevant to europe.

  10. Another stupid take by the guardian.

Jesus christ does the UK have any good media or is it just bunch of mini telegraphs and guardians?

  11. My internet runs on a big hamster wheel and goats.. and i only have 3 teeth left.. wish i lived in Murica… /s

  12. Engaging in the culture war while complaining about the culture war lmao

Btw this excerpt from the bloomberg article is hilarious:

    > Americans tend to overspend or buy cheap substitutes rather than save up for longer-lasting, better-quality goods. That’s a function of the accessibility of cheap goods, of having more space to store our purchases, and also of a culture where buying stuff feeds the empty part of our souls. European souls are not necessarily more fulfilled, they just find other, more eco-friendly ways to shut out the darkness — like going on a long bike ride.

“like going on a long bike ride”

spoken like a true obese American

  13. USA here: Our gods are guns and cars. We have perverted that to mean “fReEd0m”. As long as the 50% of the US Pavlovianly react to politicians using that word to distract from no healthcare, unattainable education and soon to be Putin style autocracy, obvious truths like the ones in the article will remain out of our grasp of understanding.
