> It did not have to be this way. Think-tanks, activists, opposition politicians, and frankly everyone with any understanding of the myriad struggles facing Britain’s working-class communities have long been urging the Tory government to reverse its post-Brexit welfare cuts, increase universal credit, and make small, one-off cash payments to those in most need to stop poverty levels skyrocketing in one of the world’s leading economies.
> Regrettably, the government chose to do the exact opposite.
And then attempt to shift the blame for the suffering and poverty caused by their own callous policies onto their victims ad nauseam
– poor people can’t shop properly
– poor people can’t cook properly
– poor people don’t work hard enough
– poor people can’t manage money
Victim blaming on a grand scale: typical of rapists and sexual predators, symptomatic of the culture of abuse that runs through this rotten government and the party that formed it.
The number 1 cause for people being poor is housing, why does everyone let this distract them from the truth
It’s the poor must pay for the excesses of the rich. It’s been this way since Thatcher.
This lot used to go out and burn £50 notes in front of homeless people when they were students – why is anyone surprised?
Ah but the Tories delivered brexit, surely that warm brexit glow should remove the need for heating.
Those with lower incomes voted Tory in 2019, driven by the promise to get brexit done.
>The Conservatives are now more popular with people on low incomes than high incomes.

Oh and households with lower incomes (including pensioners of course) were more likely to vote leave.

A man who married into one of the richest families in the world has been deemed fit to decide how to improve the economy for struggling families on benefits.
I like these articles because their truth threatens to unwind this entire nightmare, but i know in the end it’ll only prove as affective as throwing cooked spaghetti at a wall.
The tories have constructed such a well made, multi levelled and faceted meat grinder. If left in place our life expectancies are going to be terrible.
Always have and always will be the same. We are cattle to them
The same Tories that have been condemned by the EU for their inhumane cruelty regards disabled people, the same Tories that only care for the wealthy and intent to destroy everything that helps anyone not wealthy, the same Tories that voted against the creation of the NHS over 21 times, the same Tories that recently unanimously voted to not feed hungry school kids during holidays, the same Tories that are destroying the NHS due to decade of underfunding all for the benefit of their wealthy mates in the private sector, the same Tories that sold off the majority of council housing and refused to replace it, the same Tories leaving people to die due to their benefits sanctions and refusal to pay living benefits.
Shame it’s taken this long for any press to point this out and yet the vast majority of the press will ignore this and pretend it was never said, while the hyper rabid pro Tory press such as the Daily mail and Express continue to claim that things like partygate are simply a waste of time / money and we must move on and focus on all the wonderful benefits that Boris has bought to the country.
And now we have have Boris claiming that the answer to the cost of living crisis is “work” so simply get a better paying job and stop being slackers working in underpaid jobs… utter cunt and still supported by the vast majority of the media
> The Poor
Why can’t they just borrow or inherit 1 or 2 Million Pounds from Mater and Pater – which most of those ‘self-made’ Tories do?
At the moment me and my mum have decided not to put any money on the gas, only on the electric. Our shower is electric. We boil water in a kettle to do the washing up. We would rather save that extra money weekly during a time where the weather is getting warmer which means there’s no need to put the heating on.
So yes, we are making a conscious decision to not have warm running water in our home so we can save money. It’s fucking crazy.
They have contempt for the **middle-class**, the poor are not even on their radar.
I have to point out that the “middle-class” stood by while the self-same changes that are now impacting them were wreaking havoc on “the poor” and those others who while not exactly poor were not rich either.
Government signed us up for WEF 2030 agenda – “You’ll own nothing and be happy”.
To be frank, if Labour wins next elections, they’ll have to follow this anyway or WEF owned media will destroy them.
Nothing about the countless media barons and industry analyst think tanks that consistently pump the Tory party campaign coffers on the regular tho.
The idiots who voted for Tories and Brexit deserve everything they get.
But the poor are LOVING IT because they validate their xenophobia and hate for benefits claimants, who themselves were scapegoated by the Tories!
Bunch of clowns, the whole fuckin lot of them.
😓 Don’t these talking monkeys know that Eden’s got enough to go around, how they survive so misguided is a mystery to me 😓
– tool
How can we get out of a cost of living crisis when anything that could help is against Tory ideology? Taxing companies – can’t affect donors, Tax wealth – don’t watch to affect themselves, Money to the poor – why they aren’t voting Tory anyway!
To them, poverty is moral failing rather than a systemic one.
Imagine giving these clowns an 80 seat majority. What were they thinking?
What’s even more baffling is that a large portion of working class people *also voted* for the Tories
From the outside looking in (I’m in Singapore), this is utterly confounding to me. Is there any chance that they can be voted out, a la the recent Australian GE?
The lack of serious Tory response to the cost of living crisis feels like revenge for having to pay people furlough.
The idea of people having got something for ‘nothing’, even if it is to prevent mass plague deaths, is completely against the Tory ‘there is no society’ / self sufficiency mindset.
These are the same poor people that voted Tory because the alleged immigrant problem, no?
The Tories official stance on this is that it’s Labours fault.
Quote from my father
“The conservatives are having a rough time at the moment. But I’ll never vote Labour because of promises let down by New Labour and 2008. And I will never vote Lib Dem because they were pro eu.” He voted for new labour back in the day.
Edit: it’s not like we’re toffs, he’s the son of a working class migrant.
As long as the main parties continue to convince the thick people of this country to vote for cultural reasons and not economic ones we will remain doomed, the great charade is to keep us at each others throats and keep the elites rich. Too many clowns will think labour is the answer when it’s just the same sh1t with a red tie on instead of blue. A new party with the common citizen as its focus is the only escape.
British people are just sadomasochists. It’s my only explanation. We must have a secret inner fetish for being downtrodden because I don’t see why else anyone would vote Conservative. It’s genuinely a mental illness.
I’m sick of it being called a coat of living crisis. It’s not a cost of living crisis….it’s a cost of corporate greed crisis… These greedy twats are making billions of profit and poor people are paying for it.
Wait for them to have ‘contempt’ for you. That worked great during the French Revolution and Charles the first. When things get bad enough, people act.
The Tories have been pushing and straining the people of the u.k for too long a time I’m wondering what’s going to happen if/when people have had enough to actively do something. It’s like watching someone balance one thing on top of another on top of another and pile keeps going. At some point you know it’s all going to come crashing down despite everyone around them telling them to stop. How long do we keep letting a sad few ruin life for the rest of us.
Who would have thought that full-time job isn’t going to be enough to live. Perhaps dropping it off to 16 hours per week and taking benefits will get us more, if we include various discounts and exemptions. I will never understand them claiming low-unemployment as if that was some bloody miracle, when in reality the job doesn’t pay shit these days – and they have audacity saying “cook cheap” “warmer clothing” or “save 10% each month”.
Don’t worry The Torys are helping us by giving a bunch of innocent people plane tickets to Rwanda using our tax payer money ! 🤡
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
capatalism and greed. The tories have sold everything off for thier own benefit as most trade is outsourced increasing the duality off rich an poor in the UK.
It’s not even just poor people. It’s simply disdain for people who are not rich. Tories seem to have it in their head that if you’re not in the top 1% then you’re lazy and should be punished accordingly. There are plenty of people struggling with decent incomes. Hell, I am well abo9ve the average salary on my own and even I cant seem to afford to buy a house.
I just can’t comprehend the stupidity, ignorance and downright nastiness of this tory government. I can’t fathom how people like that are allowed anywhere near power. It is very scary. These same people all pushed for brexit too. Now we are poorer, worse off, the cost of living is skyrocketing, there’s no easy escape to another country anymore and our rights are being taken away. Just get rid of the tories now.
Forgive me if I don’t care how a bunch of rapist, pedophile, pathological liars feel about us
What we should do is, get all the adults in the country to decide which people they want to lead them. We could hold these events every few years to make it fair and to stop one side from gaining dominance. There is absolutely no way the majority of the country would all make the same mistake time and time again.
Oh wait.
I’m not sure if this is relevent but i was grabbing a quick bite at a chicken shop whilst working. It was £5 for a chicken burger meal, chips and a drink. £5 for somthing which would have been about £2.50 not so long ago.
Oh, this is z5 london btw…
And for clarification i do know how to cook and normally meal prep for work. In this instance just didn’t have time to do so!
Everyday we say this government do or say something worse than the day before. I don’t understand why there is not more public outrage about this. Don’t know if it’s the British culture but where are the protests?? They should have to see and face the vast majority of people they are continuing to fuck over. Maybe not in this life but there will surely be justice for Rishi sunack and every other tory who is prospering in times of crisis while the majority suffer
Most Tories spout off about life being a meritocracy, and by extension poor people are solely responsible for their troubles. If they really want things to be meritocratic, then let’s have 100% inheritance tax, or go really sci-fi and have all children separated from their birthing humans and put through a citizen creation program run by the ministry of human resource. Where only the brightest and smartest rise to higher castes of citizenship.
Yet the poor people keep voting these pricks in…stop voting for tories poor people.
