Is this opening gonna lower my rent? Is this opening gonna boost my income?
Only 3 years late and £4,000,000,000 over budget. I’m sure I heard
the Right Honourable Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Boris Johnson, brazenly boast about this project at last Wed’s Prime Minster’s Questions.
You’d think he’d show a wee bit humility over it – then again…..
I hate the 18bn quote cause it makes it look like 18bn went into a hole and vanished.
A HUGE amount of this money went to British companies, British workers, British suppliers. Who then paid tax when they spent it.
A good rule of thumb is consider the balance of payments. If the gov spend 20 bn and every penny goes to someone in the UK then that is not even really spending, its investing. The tories quite enjoy giving billions to companies that are not in the UK and so that money goes straight from the UK to Dubai or Hong Kong which is shit.
Investment in infrastructure properly done is amazing.
Fantastic news for London and the South East. Great model where London funded a large portion of this successful project. Unfortunately it’s often lost in these news articles about how much money wasn’t fronted by the central government.
