Sources in Islamabad say that police have launched raids on the homes of Afghan asylum seekers in Faisal Town.
According to the sources, on Saturday night, January 10, police officers, some in plainclothes and using unmarked vehicles, raided the homes of asylum seekers and arrested a number of them.
The sources added that police have been forcefully banging on the doors of asylum seekers’ homes, causing fear and panic among children and other family members.
They say that police in this neighborhood carry out arrests, extortion, and intimidation around the clock, and that asylum seekers have grown exhausted by the harassment and abuse.
This comes as the Pakistani government has intensified the arrest and deportation of asylum seekers.
In a recent incident, a commander close to Marshal Dostum, the former vice president, was reportedly executed by firing squad by the Taliban after returning from Iran.
Hundreds of asylum seekers who fled to Pakistan out of fear of retaliation, killing, and arrest by the Taliban are now facing serious threats from Pakistani police.
