Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit Madrid on Monday for talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, marking the first visit by a Greek premier to Spain in 13 years.
The two leaders are scheduled to meet at 1 p.m., followed by joint statements to the press and a working lunch. Later in the afternoon, Mitsotakis will be received by Spain’s King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Royal Palace.
According to government officials, the visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, with an emphasis on economic and trade cooperation.
Talks are expected to focus on international, regional and European issues, including the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Greece and Spain, both southern European and Mediterranean countries, face shared challenges such as migration and climate change and hold similar positions on the EU budget, cohesion policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, as well as on the need for joint European investment initiatives.
