DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Around one dozen in people in Allegan County fought the cold on Saturday to make it clear where they stand on Microsoft’s proposal to put a data center in Dorr Township.
The group handed out flyers and held signs downtown reading “no data center” a few miles away from the proposed site near 144th Avenue and 14th Street.
Microsoft bought hundreds of acres of land in Allegan and Kent Counties in 2024.
Protestors told News Channel 3 it isn’t just about environmental or noise concerns and said the development would threaten their way of life.
“We are a rural community,” Linda Dumond said. “We are a farming community. And to put something like this here just goes against what everybody wants of our community here.”
“Now, the country is turning into the city,” Nick Barlow said. “You can’t do anything about it.”
Microsoft recently requested a rezoning in Lowell Charter Township for similar plans.

The township paused the process after a huge turnout at last month’s planning commission meeting.
