Violence is unacceptable but what is the issue with pitch invasions if done without malice?
“”It’s a difficult time for people. We are going to have more difficult times because of the economy”
What? They’re invading the pitch and head butting the opposition players because of the economy?
It’s just twats being twats. Got fuck all to do with inflation.
They are currently illegal. If the clubs and police wanted to then every single person who goes on the pitch could be banned for life from that ground and for 2 years from every ground in the UK and anywhere England are playing.
They won’t do that because 1) it’s a faff and 2) it’s disproportionate.
They also won’t go back to having fences, for what I hope are very fucking obvious reasons. And if the league or police try to impose that then I hope the clubs (especially Liverpool and Wednesday) lead a boycott of any stadiums with such a thing.
So, what is the answer? Punish people who commit violence, as happened with the Forest incident, and make clear that anyone coming on the pitch *could* be banned. If there is a case of widespread disorder then at that point look at points deductions and making teams play behind closed doors for extended periods.
Lifetime bans for all who can be identified. Pitch invasions who been a thing for a while, but it used to be good natured.
Interesting to observe the same people who discuss “cultural issues” elsewhere writing this sort of bad behaviour off as “a few bad apples”.
It’s a reflection of football fans. A lot of fans are lovely people, but there’s a disproportionate amount (compared to other sports) that are tossers. How embarrassing was it when our fans shone lasers in the goalies eyes during the Euros? Or the invasion of Wembley? The rampant vandalism and drug taking throughout London during games?
Look at rugby for example, never has these issues. Cricket, never has these issues. You could go on…
