Riga Technical University (RTU) intends to establish a modern and internationally-recognised business and management education centre in the Baltic region in 2027, reports Labs of Latvia.

This goal is planned to be achieved by merging two strong players in their field – the RTU Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management (FEEM) and the RTU Riga Business School (RBS).

To elevate the quality of future business education, RBS study programmes will merge with FEEM’s economics and management science portfolio, while FEEM’s engineering programmes will be integrated into other RTU faculties.

A central priority is to forge a strong link between business studies and RTU’s engineering and high-tech expertise. This will provide students with a modern business education focused on leveraging emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, ensuring that future leaders are prepared for a technology-driven labour market.

‘Merging RBS and FEEM will boost RTU’s scientific capacity in economics and management, ensuring robust study programmes for future leaders. This is crucial as RTU aims for the Top 500 in international rankings, where scientific performance and study quality are vital. United, both units will have greater opportunities to implement international science and education projects,” said RTU Rector Talis Juhna.

RBS has already initiated the process for AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation, a testament to world-class business education and leadership, and will continue this pursuit jointly following the integration with FEEM. To support these ambitions, financial investments are planned for developing study content and building research capacity. Furthermore, study programmes falling outside the economics and management scope will be relocated to other RTU faculties.

A detailed strategy is scheduled for development in 2026, allowing the new framework to launch in 2027. Meanwhile, the 2026 admission process and studies will proceed as usual.
