Timeline of the French flag; including Macron’s recent change

  1. I knew the 1790s were wild years, but apparently something happened in 1848 that also made people decide to flip things around.

  2. Maybe it’s because I grow up with it, but lighter shade blue looks better to me. Although, don’t know why it was changed in 1976 as it was traditionally a dark blue tone.

  3. I often like darker colours but here the contrast between the blue, white and the red makes the Prussian blue look quite off. (Yes, it’s really dark blue, not black mike it looks like). It looks more like a sideways flag of the Weimar Republic than the French flag now.

If they would revise the red and/or the white it’d look way better. Or maybe just by not having such a dark blue

  4. There are mistakes though :

“Banner of France” : I don’t know where this full blue come from. The very first banner used commonly by the Kings of France was the [Oriflamme](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriflamme#Appearance) wich is a carolingian legacy and depicted as a full red banner

“French First Republic : Yes but this flag actually was used before as the official flag of [Louis XVI’s constitutionnal monarchy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_Cabinet_of_Louis_XVI) and is basically the white of the royal banner surrounded by [Paris’s colours](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9b/Flag_of_Paris.svg/180px-Flag_of_Paris.svg.png)

“Kingdom of France, 1815-1830” : actually the Restauration monarchy used differents variations as shown on this historical paintings [here](https://histoire-image.org/sites/default/lar3_beaume_001f.jpg) and [there](https://histoire-image.org/sites/default/vers53_lejeune_001f.jpg)

  5. Ah, that’s it! The previous blue was the monarchy blue. He likes the revolution blue better than the monarchy blue.
