A total of 84 cinemas were operating in various locations across the country in 2024, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on its website on Tuesday in honour of Film Makers’ Day. According to NSI, cinemas in Bulgaria continued to attract large audiences and fill theatres with interesting plots and emotional stories over the past year.

According to the Statistical Yearbook of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, which contains data from 1989, there were 3,081 cinemas in the country at that time. 

In 2024, 240 screens offered film enthusiasts a selection of titles, with 319,136 screenings and 4,481,000 visits.
