I was wondering if you could please help me and my partner understand the intent to study visa in Germany a bit better. Any advice would be really appreciated!

We are thinking of switching my partner onto the [Residence permit for study preparation](https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/305156/en/), the legal basis for which is in 16b paragraph 1 but have a few questions. The course they would want to do is intensive German, and they are flexible about the degree course that would follow (they have already reached B1 German level while here).

* Does the time you spend on the visa still count towards citizenship?
* Does the dependent spouse have the right to work?
* Does the person on the course have the right to work?
* What are the limitations on work?
* What do you have to prove in order to sign up for this?
* What is evidence of “international maturity certificate”? Can this be a US Bachelors Diploma?

If it’s important:

* right now, my partner is on the freelance artist visa, and I am a dependent
* we both have US citizenship

Please let me know if you could help answer these questions, any insight would be really helpful, thank you!

Elderflowers, mugwort, and lime blossoms soon,
