What happened to the Belgian coast?

  1. if you’re a country where a vacation at sea is considered the top moment of the summer and you have half a kilometer of coastline those things tend to happen

  2. take a look at the rest of belgium…

we call it “lint bebouwing” or ribbon planning… you take a main road, you build houses the entire stretch of it on both sides and voila, done…

the only difference is that at the coast the sea view is worth more so they built appartment buildings to maximize proffit from each square meter of available land before “planning” came in to play in the seventies and the madness was largly stopped… but by that time it was almost built to capacity.

we even have laws protecing this idiocy… if, for example, you have land between two houses, you can automaticly build on that lot of land as well… even if it was not planned as such, you can “connect” the houses.
