EXCLUSIVE: More than 30 years after starring in New Line’s big-budget Civil War movie Gettysburg, Stephen Lang is returning to the subject in indie drama Gettysburg 1863.
The Avatar actor is starring alongside Jake Busey (Stranger Things), Bruce Boxleitner (Tron), Samuel Roukin (Turn), Shannon Lucio (The OC), Eric Nelsen (1883), and Drew Seltzer (Mindhunter).
Production is underway in Pennsylvania on the project, which centers on a local Gettysburg family navigating the chaos of war, the moral crossroads of the Underground Railroad, and the struggles of a Union soldier torn between duty and compassion.
Pic is being produced by Bo Brinkman’s Cactus Films with Brinkman also directing from his script. Kris Webb and Ken Schwenker also produce.
Lang, who portrayed Confederate General George Edward Pickett in 1993 film Gettysburg, is coming off the latest instalment in box office juggernaut Avatar, in which he portrays the recurring central character Quaritch.
In Gettysburg 1863, we understand Lang will be turning to the Union side to portray John L. Burns, an elderly resident who famously fought alongside Union soldiers and was wounded multiple times. He later met Abraham Lincoln and became a national symbol of courage and patriotism.
