Must be a great buzz knowing that not only did you keep your property at a nice price but you also help contribute to a well known published crisis.
How much of their objections are public info out of interest ?
881 units is more places then there is to rent on daft.
I live up the road and I can tell you the guy who organised this lives right next to the library building so this thing will tower over his house. Saying that the bulk of those units will be BTR so the locals have a point.
Of you don’t like living in a suburb of the city then move. Character of the village etc nonsense excuses. It’s in an area with good public transport links, close to the city and more supply means lower prices.
I always laugh when I hear dubs talking about their Villages. It’s spelt suburb.
Oh for fuck sake. I’m embarrassed to be living in Dundrum surrounded by these people
Why are NIMBYs given a voice at all? Absolute imbiciles. Robbing us all of any hope of being able to move out.
God forbid folk in our primate capital city can’t see the mountains!

That’s some uh nice…*checks notes*…intergenerational injustice you got there.
The way they talk it’s like Dundrum is some prime village Mecca, when it’s literally a dated main street with a few shops, fairly generic.
It’s the ideal location for high density apartments, close to the city, m50, public transport etc. Of course it’s going to stick out, but if we’re going to solve this housing crisis the only way out is to build build build.
I live near Dundrum and I can say this with certainty- the village died back in 2005 when they built the shopping centre. Go for a walk around Dundrum villiage. It’s a single street, with a couple of phone shops, sandwich places, a centra, chemist, and 2 pubs which i doubt are objecting because it would mean 800+ apartments full of customers. There is no ‘villiage life’ to upset, because all the ‘houses’ are no longer homes, but businesses. They’re all Gp’s offices and dentists, and one of the cottages is a hair salon. There’s no _people_ living there except in housing estates on either side of the Dundrum bypass.
I’d love to know which of the maybe 10 people who live off the Main Street of the ‘villiage’ complained about this because it’s a villiage in name only.
>”Junior Government Minister for Special Education and Inclusion, Josepha Madigan TD has added her own weight to the objections made… Many local residents have contacted me… In particular, they have expressed their worry that the proposed height and density of the development will place undue pressure on local infrastructure, such as public transport, roads, and schools. Residents are especially worried that the proposed sixteen-storey height of one of the apartment blocks is excessive and not in keeping with the surrounding area,” Minister Madigan added.
>Minister Madigan has asked the appeals board “to give strong consideration to the concerns of all local residents, and takes their views into account, when the Board makes its decision”
I am so sick of this shite when it comes to planning. TDs need to grow a backbone and stop worrying about the next election and focus on fixing the country not putting pressure on An Bord Planáil. The local council should be managing the complaints and actually working to address them with the residents and explaining the benefits.
More lazy clickbait to get the plebs all hot and sweaty.
God forbid a few apartments get built for us on our 20s/30s so we can buy something or rent prices come down.
Anyone who opposed this should be ashamed and i wish 40 year old children still living at home upon them
There’s a guy calling himself “Dundrum resident” who’s taking out shed loads of adverts on Facebook trying to get people to object to this.
The comments are gas, around 40% agreeing with him and the rest telling him to get his act together and stop objecting to things that are actually going to help the current housing crisis.
Denying people a home so you can have a view of a mountain 10km away, the arrogance.
When it’s build to rent: we don’t want a transient population.
When it’s social affordable: we don’t want (insert horrible assertion here).
When it’s built for private sale: Think of the traffic! The views!
The housing crisis is the greatest Irish scandal of our age, and we are all complicit in it. Quite the achievement.
Not the most attractive looking renderings in fairness.
Why do we hate apartment buildings in this country?
Home owners greedily objects to new housing so they don’t risk losing on their “investment” themselves? This is why you don’t ask competitors if they want competition.
Ah yes, we rent a house in Dundrum for crazy money and had an older resident knock on our door trying to convince us to sign the petition. One of their suggestions for sprucing up the village was building a “boutique hotel”. Lol, so out of touch! In a similar vain, our older next door neighbours scowl at us when we walk past them/try to wave simply for the fact that they don’t want to live next to renters. 🙂
There should be counter objections.
It’s beside one of the most reliable public transport corridors across the city and beside one of the countries biggest shopping centre. If it can’t be built there then where else could you possibly put it.
They’re hideous, cheap, shoe-boxes, but then that’s what desperation allows developers to build. Ireland shouldn’t settle for it, but that’s what we do best.
Don’t worry about it! Leo was only saying today that he’s pulling out all the stops to sort the housing crisis! I’m sure the anti social objections will be ignored and the project will proceed.
When people ask me why I’m still living at home at 30 I just point to stuff like this. NIMBYism is a huge part of the problem!
I wonder how many of those 700 objections are by people who regularly call out the government for not providing places for people to live in?
16 stories? Build it 25 stories.
“as a nation we need more affordable places to live”
“no no absolutely not. Not near by back garden I have a view”
Housing is needed ffs. But I do think they also need to build up outside the cities too. Especially with office hubs now being a thing, spread out the housing to all over the country. There’s dead rural towns crying out for a bit of activity.
“Whilst we all recognise that we must have housing for current need, this development is not the answer”. It fuc**ng is …. get used to that!
Might sound semi authoritarian but we need to by pass these.
We are in a crisis, so same as the additional powers government gave themselves to deal with cover they should have temporary powers to start any building project necessary.
Not going to happy with this government because the housing crisis suits them but still
People who know shit about planning should stop having a voice in these matters. This is like asking a flat earth lunatic if it’s ok to build a satellite to provide broadband connection to a country.

Why are modern flats so ugly?
Hello Dundrum NIMBYs
Some have to get their jollies from somewhere.
