  1. This is the first incidence of widespread community transmission outside of Africa. [We had four cases in 2018](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkeypox#2018_United_Kingdom_cases), and three cases in 2021. All related to travel from Nigeria and their 2017 outbreak.

It’s the West African clade which has a case fatality ratio of around 1%, whereas for the Congo Basin clade, can be as high as 10%. I’m gonna have to tell the beautiful Nigerian prince in my inbox that maybe our relationship won’t work.

Edit: According to a WHO expert it may be down to two raves [held in Spain and Belgium](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/monkeypox-likely-spread-sex-two-raves-europe-expert-says-rcna30055)

  2. I don’t like this. It reminds me of the early days of covid when it was supposedly under control etc and then one or two cases became half a dozen, and then 20, 40, 100…

Just trying to get past constant covid anxiety and now this fucking thing comes up

Also, it’s spreading mostly among MSM just as I was starting to feel comfortable opening up about my sexuality. Nice little stigma for the LGBT community and “oh please don’t do gay stuff and put us all in danger” etc

  3. Several MPs being accused or even sentenced for sexual abuse claims, PM caught lying (again) about yet another party during a national lockdown, cost of living crippling anybody earning less than six figures whilst companies get to pay minimal tax… Release the monkeypox stories!

  4. Get ready for some shamelessly irresponsible reporting on this outbreak. Predicting wild speculation and testimony from Clive in the local Greggs that should be considering locking down the Soho area.

  5. Do we know anything about the infected? How did they get it? It’s not airborne or anything, it’s actually difficult to get it.

  6. In Sir David Attenborough’s voice

An so it begins the new pandemic in its early stages. Just what will the uk leadership do. Will they crimple like they did with brexit and covid or will they pull their heads out their arses and get their shit together. Tune in tomorrow to find out as we continue our live coverage of Monkeypox. Tomorrow night we’ll be talking to families of the lost if they choose to but if not please respect their privacy, goodnight and god bless.

  7. Of course we have made Monkey Pox a securely transmitted disease! I”m gonna need a whole new 2020s Bingo Card.
