As those projects continue across the city, Atmos Energy reminds customers to contact a licensed plumber or heating contractor to have natural gas vents and piping inspected for proper ventilation of natural gas equipment and appliances.
“The safety of the public, our employees and our system is our highest priority, and recent roofing repairs may affect vent caps and pipes which properly ventilate combustion gases like carbon monoxide,” said Brandi Price, Atmos Energy Vice President of Public Affairs. “If you have had recent roofing repairs to your home it is imperative that a licensed professional certify all roofing repair work to help prevent safety risks and keep appliances operating as designed. As the owner of your home’s gas piping and appliances, it is your responsibility to schedule regular inspections and maintenance. Doing so helps prevent hazards and ensures optimal performance.”
Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless, and tasteless gas that may cause serious injury or death, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In addition to proper ventilation throughout the home, the U.S. Fire Administration recommends installation and maintenance of CO alarms in a central location, outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home to provide an early warning of CO buildup.
