Hospitals set up food banks for NHS staff who can’t afford basics

  1. I have the upmost respect for those who donate to foodbanks, they are the least “wow” of charities and often overlooked.

That being said the fact we have seen an almost 4000% increase in their use is a damning statistic, and frankly anyone who voted for the conservatives the last 3 times or for brexit is directly culpable. There are many who deserve ire.

  2. People will act as if all NHS staff are paid senior consultant wages, forgetting that many take home less than the median wage and a lot of support staff are being terribly affected by the cost of living crisis.

  3. Low wages and no pay rise announcement even when they are pretty much always below inflation on a good year is atrocious

  4. Fuck this government. I hate that people are risking their health and sanity caring for our sick and injured, and they’re rewarded with the opportunity to take home a can of donated food at the end of a shift. Instead of, you ‘know, a living wage.

  5. NHS worker here. I am job searching, as are quite a few I know. The hospital I work at has the lowest staffing numbers I have ever seen, and morale has never been lower. I am only on band 2 (Support worker) and was eventually planning to move career anyway, but I really do feel forced out now

  6. Can you imagine if another equally large employer did this? Food banks inside Amazon distribution centres, food banks inside PWC, Home Retail Group, Tescos etc. There would be national outrage.
