David McWilliams made up a new word for this current crisis in Europe 😐

  1. Truly a Shakespeare of our time…though I would’ve thought “Putinflation” was that moment you flush a big one, but the water almost overflows.

  2. He’s some man for making up words. I love his pod cast though. He seems to really enjoy his work, I’m envious of that.

  3. It’s a common device he employs, and it’s not a bad idea in that it can help guide discussion.

There’s also some value in getting ahead of the issue.

There will be huge political ructions as the Ukrainian war drags on and Russia refuses to withdraw, which, currently appears the most likely scenario.

In terms of politics, we’re going to see a lot of anti-establishment and/or Russophile groups begin to emerge in the next few months and try and pretend that domestic governments are the cause of inflation, not Russia.

Look at the links between Le Pen and Russia, as an example, or Trump and Russia.

Both would be more than happy to blame the economic problems caused by Putin on those currently in charge which could have seriously bad consequences for global stability if the message has any success.

  4. I get the appeal of smashing two words together to make something new, but Putinflation hardly trips off the tongue. Anyway, the inflation predates the war in Ukraine

  5. In this case he’s made up a word around inflation to cover for how absolutely positive he was 2 years ago that inflation would never be a concern for anyone.

  6. There’s something about this lad that make me think he’s a bullshiter like does he really have an economics degree, he gives off vibes that he blagged his way on to the airwaves

  7. lmao, spent the last god knows how long screaming that we should be printing and borrowing even more and now wants to say the inflation is because of putin.

Weird how it started before anything kicked of in ukraine at all.

  8. Economic experts everywhere scared of this one trick.

The only financial instrument the bank has to deal with inflation is interest rates.

  9. David McWilliaks makes up a lot of stuff, and then just says told you so when a bit of it is true

  10. So let me get this straight, EU imposed sanctions on Russia, it made everything much more expensive, but Russia is at fault here?

  11. So Putin is to blame for our own self-sanctioning of Oil and Gas now.

I heard a few good ones but this takes the cake

  12. Putin is an asshole but the inflation is not his doing. We had it before the war and the govt are trying to spin this in their favour.

  13. > ignore experts warning of inflation

    > call burgeoning inflation “transitory” during all of 2021 and do nothing about it

    > see inflation sky-rocket in 2022

    > blame it on Putin

    Flawless.

  14. He’s a bit of try hard and at times it feels like he’s trying to stay relevant or to predict the next big thing or nice big flop/recession, but then that’s what a lot of economists do. They tend to make 50/50 predictions and if they’re right they look like geniuses and if they’re wrong no one seems to ever bring that up when they make their next big wild guess.

That said, he’ll always be a legend to me because of [this](https://youtu.be/qRiVsOR8-zc)

  15. More useless rubbish from breakfast roll man. FFS, has no-one noticed that inflation has been rising steadily for a number of years now?

  16. David was a huge advocate for central banks printing money into oblivion during covid.
Now that inflation is through the roof of course he is calling it “Putinfaltion”.
Even though US CPI stood at over 6% before the war began.
    Calling BS here

  17. What a numpty, nothing to do with Governments worldwide printing truckloads of money the last 2 years nah.

  18. So Irish government also uses the term putinflation to hide the fact they are going to fuck us with a recession caused by them printing money.

  19. McWilliams absolutely loves the smell of his own shite!

I listen to his podcast as it’s interesting, but god I can’t stand his personality

  20. Putinflation sounds like a vaginal disease , just say inflation ffs . Does he go around in his world inventing words to describe his life , ah howya cappuccinochino man

  21. Hopefully the new regulation directive number 34 will help with this.

Google “Rule 34 putin inflation” for more details

  22. Oh, No! Do not give that pos a place in any dictionary.
The sooner he’s relegated to a forgotten historical Hitler/Stalin wannabe, the better.

  23. its not a bad word, but most of the inflation right now isn’t necessarily tied to ukraine, its just that ukraine has made things worse
