Connemara this morning

  1. For ages I thought this was where Dumbledore was buried, till I found out it was actually a similar place in Scotland. Stunning place. Great snap.

  2. For me this island with beautiful l Scots pine and various other native tree species and understory represents a sad tragedy.

This small island represents what large swathes of Connemara should look like. However because of the widespread sheep grazing allowed throughout the mountains the flora of this area is grazed to a nub of the biodiversity it should have. New saplings of native trees and plants are grazed into non-existence by sheep. The forestry that is actively promoted is not native, dense and depauperate in biodiversity. We really are poor stuards of our environment in Ireland, even of those places we should be especially careful of, I’m sorry to say.

  3. Scots pines really are great trees. They grow into really crazy shapes if given enough time, giving them an almost Mediterranean quality.
