TelevisaUnivision’s breakout live true crime talk show “C.D.I.: Código de Investigación” is accelerating its global expansion after securing format deals in three European markets and closing tape sales across five Latin American territories. The milestone underscores the momentum behind the first live true crime talk show created specifically for Hispanic audiences, hosted by Spanish news anchor Borja Voces.

In Spain, the format has been optioned by Mediacrest, while Central and Eastern Europe have also secured rights, with one local production already in development. In Latin America, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua have acquired episodes of the U.S.-produced series. “C.D.I.: Código de Investigación,” co-produced by Univision Entertainment and 360 Powwow, blends live studio investigation with expert criminologists, exclusive interviews, real-time case analysis, and advanced forensic technology, distinguishing itself from traditional pre-recorded true crime programming.

Univision has renewed the series for a second season following strong performance in the U.S., expanding its editorial scope beyond murder cases to kidnappings, cults, fraud, human negligence, and cybercrime. Recent stories examined in the show include cases tied to Liam Payne, Jeffrey Epstein, P. Diddy, the Central Park Five, the Louvre heist, and the Jet Set collapse in the Dominican Republic.

“‘Código de Investigación’ was a breakthrough in MIPCOM and has garnered international attention from clients. With this genre on the rise, broadcasters aim to target true crime fans while bringing a fresh twist to their FTA programming schedules,” said Guillermo Borensztein, senior vice president of international content licensing at TelevisaUnivision.

Jaime Acero, senior director of Content Development and Non-Scripted at TelevisaUnivision, noted the format’s appeal to younger Hispanic audiences, adding, “The live true crime talk show creates must-see TV, and our retention week-to-week has been exceptional. It’s attracting younger Hispanic viewers while maintaining broad appeal, and production costs are lower than investigative documentaries.”

The international rollout reinforces TelevisaUnivision’s strategy to scale its Spanish-language content globally, delivering high-impact, culturally resonant formats to broadcasters and audiences worldwide.
