Sadly we are one of the few countries that never made corporal punishment illegal per se, neither for schools nor at home. Exceptions are in extreme cases where a child’s health is in danger, so no severe beatings. But standing upright for hours or getting smacked on the head or fingers with a ruler is still allowed. The “pedagogische tik” is still a thing in some schools.
The UN Children’s Rights Convention routinely asks us to please get our sh*t together on this
Just a legal/law matter, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen anywhere in Belgium but in most schools every teacher would never lay a hand on one of their students. Almost everyone of them is really committed to their job and students.
Just thinking, sometimes I had the option to do manual labour instead of sitting at a desk all day long when you’re grounded, would that also count as “physical punishment”?
In China, it’s the government that hands out the punishment.
Yep corporal punishment isnt illegal here (the infamous and utterly dumb “pedagogisch tik” ) so this is possible.
I’m pretty sure any teacher using corporeal punishment would get fired the same day and would never find a job anymore.
