A brilliant opening match at EHF EURO 2026 in Oslo saw Slovenia and Montenegro make history, as Slovenia edged a spectacular 41:40 win.
The “run and gun” clash between the teams of head coach Uroš Zorman and Montenegro produced the highest number of goals ever scored in a European Championship match.
Since the tournament has been held every two years since 1994, the previous record had been set at EHF EURO 2016, when Iceland and Belarus combined for 77 goals in a 39:38 final score.
Alongside Slovenia and Montenegro, the group also features the Faroe Islands and Switzerland.
