It aims to stage competitions and events across the whole country.
Ten cantons and 14 municipalities are directly involved, with organisers prioritising the use of existing sports facilities.
The 2030 Games will be held in France, and the 2034 Games in Salt Lake City in the USA.
Switzerland last held The Winter Olympics in St Moritz in 1948.

Lausanne would likely hold the Opening Ceremony, with the capital Bern organsing the Closing Ceremony.
Crans-Montana would host Alpine ski races, building on its reputation as a World Cup venue.
The resort is also scheduled to hold the Alpine Ski World Championships next year, and World Cup races in the weeks ahead of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics.
Crans-Montana was previously part of a bid when nearby Sion competed to host the 2026 Games, eventually awarded to Italy.

Ice hockey would take place in Zurich and Zug, with some matches in Lugano to represent Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region.
Lausanne is expected to welcome the figure skating and short-track events.Geneva would stage speed skating and curlingLucerne would provide a hub for accommodation.
“The sports federations, from winter and summer sports, Olympic and non-Olympic, want the 2038 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Switzerland,” said the President of the Switzerland Olympic Committee, Ruth Metzler-Arnola.
“They recognise the lasting impact such an event has on sport.
“Nothing has a comparable power to the guiding star of a major sporting event, which serves as a beacon for an entire generation of athletes and inspires people throughout the country – beyond the realm of sport.”
Switzerland is currently the only candidate in talks with the IOC for the 2038 Winter Games.
