Rishi Sunak considers windfall tax on electricity generators

  1. Does it say if it will hit people with solar panels? As they are technically electricity generators. I should shut up just in case I gave them an idea

  2. Oh, here we go. The bribe to keep the voter base distracted from the illegal parties that Johnson got away with and everything else that is wrong.

They are needed, but the timing is obvious.

  3. So this is the reason they’ve been sitting on a windfall tax.

Just like they’ve held back the cut to the basic rate until 2024 when it’s election year.

  4. *’Rishi Sunak considers imposing further rates increases on tax generators’*

*this just in – Rishi Sunak reprimanded for referring to the electorate as tax generators*

  5. A windfall tax on oil companies would discourage investment apparently. So instead, they want to tax wind farms?

  6. Idiot.

There’s a reason why a windfall tax on just oil and gas has scope – it’s because it’s our oil and gas and we already tax them more than the normal amount.

But on all electricity generators? Why? Why should windfarms be taxed for correctly betting on Britain needing a non-fossil fuel supply (especially in winter when wind farms shine)?

Energy companies do consider these sorts of risks before investing. If we don’t reward resilience then the next crisis will be worse because of a reduced incentive to supply in a crisis. Supplying energy in a global energy shortage is a higher value service, and should be rewarded, not punished.

  7. Cunt considers the prospect of toning down the cuntiness with no actual promise to tone down the cuntiness
