Russian Herber Drone Found on Lake Shore in Moldova

In the Telenești District of Moldova, on the shore of a lake, a drone about 2.5 meters long was found on January 17.

Circumstances of discovery and police response

The General Inspectorate of Police stated that a hunter contacted the police, reporting that he had found a drone on the shore of a lake near the village of Nukareni.

Security forces arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

Subsequently, police established that it was a Russian Gerbera-type drone.

“Explosive ordnance disposal technicians examined the aircraft. This is a Gerbera-type drone. It is not equipped with an explosive and did not pose a danger to the public”

However, law enforcement urged the public not to approach or touch such objects.

Context of events around the airspace

As Ukrinform reported, Russian drones have not for the first time breached Moldova’s airspace and fallen on its territory. The last two incidents occurred in November of last year: on the night of November 19, a Russian drone flew into Moldova’s territory, after which the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Chișinău.

And on November 25, in the village of Nizhni Kugurești in northern Moldova, a drone that had fallen was found.

There are also reports that a Russian drone without a warhead was detected in Romania.
