“I see no point in talking with him”, Lithuanian FM baffled by Merkel-Lukashenko call

  1. > Landsbergis said he learned about the recent conversation between Merkel and Lukashenko only after it happened.

    > Meanwhile, the Lithuanian president’s office told BNS it “was informed about the planned conversation in advance”.

Ok, but this is an internal Lithuanian issue.

  2. Merkel clearly doesn’t give a fuck about her political reputation anymore, why the fuck she talks with Lukashenko, illegitimate president , and gives him legitimacy in the process, lol.

  3. > the Lithuanian president’s office told BNS it “was informed about the planned conversation in advance”.

  4. Awesome idea: calling crazy Luka and giving his propaganda mill fuel for upcoming days “great leader, Germany even talks to him etc.”

  5. I guess that’s why neither Lithuania nor Poland were not invited for the talks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No disrespect to either of those countries. They absolutely might be right (in that EU shouldn’t talk with Luka). But there are really just 2 options: you either don’t talk with Belarus at all, or you do talk with Belarus and don’t invite those two.

  6. Sounds like Merkel understands that when you share a planet with other people you sometimes should talk to them. And Landsbergis doesn’t.

Not surprising since he’s clearly only twelve judging by the picture. Is he Vytautas’s great-grandson or something?

  7. If he thinks there’s no point talking to him then it means Merkel not involving Lithuania in the conversation is fine; they didn’t want to be involved in the conversation anyway.

  8. Because Merkel is a stateswoman and not a pretentious chad. And in the grand scheme of things who cares about Lithuania anyways?

  9. Lukashenkois literally responsible for trained aggressive tourists attacking Poland’s border on Belarus soil delivering them there with a taxi. What can you possibly say to this guy except, yes please, we ligitimize your authoritarian regime. Keep oppressing Belorussian people. We’ll help you build North Korea 2.0?

  10. The responses here says very clearly that most of you guys shouldn’t get yourself invovled in public service. You would do you country disservice.

You don’t make peace with friends. If all a nation did was only talk to the countries they liked, then the world would be at war. A politician, especially someone like FM should know this. Either this is for public consumption and not his serious thoughts (which is a major red flag) or he is this incompetent that he believes what he says.

    >“Lukashenko might start thinking that he’s a leader recongised by the West, one who could possibly resolve the crisis, despite being the one who caused it,” the foreign minister told reporters on Tuesday.

What a plonker. Despite rethoric, it’s plainly obvious that every nation recognises Lukashenko and his government as the legitimate recognized leader of Belarus. If they didn’t…… they would have withdrawn all embassies.

  11. Holy shit all these western commenters are such pussies, pushovers and likely bullied.

    Listen heres the situation
2 dudes belarus and russia are spitting on his neighbours face Poland Lithuania Latvia Ukraine.
And Germany their “older sister” wants to talk with them so they stop it.
    Ofcourse they dont stop.
Unless we stand up to Russia and Belarus it wont end.
They are testing how far can they go.
Ofcourse its not Germany or France getting the shitstick so they have absolutely no fking idea and should either support us or shut the fuck up.

  12. Has r/Europe not realised that the whole “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” tactic has already been tried by the US… and failed spectacularly. Belarus is leveraging the EU’s xenophobia against us, unless we suddenly change our minds on taking in migrants, he has has us up against a wall. So negotiations are good, unless people want our leaders to sit on the sidelines huffing while migrants die between Polish and Belarusian soldiers?
