President Donald Trump has invited Greece and Cyprus to join the newly formed “Board of Peace” for Gaza. Government officials in Athens and Nicosia confirmed that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Nikos Christodoulides received the invitation.
The White House recently unveiled the founding members of the council, which will be chaired by President Trump himself. Key figures include U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Trump’s son-in-law and advisor, Jared Kushner. The board also includes U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and World Bank President Ajay Banga.
Additional founding executive members include billionaire Marc Rowan, CEO of Apollo Global Management, and Robert Gabriel, a senior advisor to the President. Similar invitations have been extended to the leaders of Turkey and Egypt, with Cairo currently reviewing the proposal.
Trump’s “Board of Peace”: Three pillars
The “Board of Peace” serves as the primary oversight authority for the “Second Phase” of Trump’s 20-point peace plan to end the conflict in Gaza. It is designed to transition Gaza from a state of war to one of reconstruction and self-governance under international supervision.
Its goals are divided into three main pillars:
Governance: It oversees the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a group of 15 Palestinian technocrats led by Dr. Ali Shaath. This committee is responsible for running daily civil services (water, electricity, schools) without the involvement of Hamas or other armed factions.
Security & Demilitarization: The Board is tasked with securing a “Comprehensive Demilitarization Agreement.” This includes the surrender of all weapons, the dismantling of all remaining tunnels, and the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to replace the Israeli military (IDF) as they gradually withdraw.
Reconstruction & Investment: Using what Trump has described as a “business-first” approach, the Board aims to mobilize massive international capital to rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure. High-profile members like the CEO of Apollo Global Management and the President of the World Bank were chosen specifically to attract private investment.
