Iranian students gather in College Station to condemn violence in Iran

  • 2026-01-18

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Iranian Students Association and other groups gathered at Aggie Park on Saturday to condemn ongoing and escalating violence in Iran.

Participants echoed sentiments expressed by others across the country, calling for political freedom, justice and the right for Iranians to live with dignity and security. They also want the U.S. to help.

A Texas A&M student from Iran, who asked not to be named, said the internet blackout and blocked messaging services has prevented him from contacting his mother in Iran.

That same internet blackout has made verifying the death toll in Iran hard to pinpoint, with people reporting anywhere from 2,000 to 20,000 deaths.

In a statement, the Texas A&M Persian Student Association said they are committed to amplifying the voices of people silenced in Iran. The group is promoting local advocacy to ensure the crisis is acknowledged and that Iranian students receive needed support. They also want to preserve their heritage and culture defined not by their oppressors, but by their people.

As Iranian students of this university (Aggies), our hearts beat in two places. While we honor the rich traditions of our heritage here in College Station, our thoughts and minds remain with our families and the people of Iran, who continue to face systematic repression and violence.

Our Position:

The Iranian Students Association (PSA) strongly condemns the ongoing and escalating violence against the people of Iran. Reports of mass arrests, internet shutdowns, and the deaths of thousands of innocent individuals—including women, children, and youth—are not merely statistics; they represent a deliberate effort to silence the legitimate human demand for justice and dignity.

The Struggle for Human Dignity

The current movement in Iran is a collective rejection of a system that relies on coercion and lethal force. We believe that the protesters on the streets today are demanding their most fundamental rights:

• The right to bodily autonomy and self-determination

• Political freedom

• Accountability and justice

• The right to live with dignity and security

Our Commitment to Action as a student organization, we refuse to remain silent. In this period of enforced communication blackouts and internet shutdowns, we recognize our responsibility to:

1. Amplify Voices: Use our platform to carry the voices of those silenced inside Iran, while the disgraceful Islamic Republic regime continues to distort reality.

2. Local Advocacy: Work with Texas A&M University and its administration to ensure that the crisis in Iran is acknowledged and that Iranian students receive the support they need.

3. Preserve Culture: Continue to honor thousands of years of cultural and intellectual heritage and affirm that our identity is defined by our people—not by our oppressors.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with the families who have lost loved ones and with all those around the world who are fighting for a free and flourishing future.

Long live Iran and the Iranian people.

Freedom for Iran.
